The thought of a designer creating a product in their own image initially rings warning bells about oversized egos and flamboyant self indulgence – which can be all to prevalent in the design world...
However, all concerns immediately vanish when you actually see this charming little fellow. A smile will more than likely arrive on your face as you realize that the Alessandro M corkscrew is a delightful rendition of his creator Alessandro Mendini. The skill displayed here is that this is no ego flattering homage, or even a simple caricature - but instead can be considered a great partner to the Anna G range, which is only fitting as Mendini is good friends with Anna Gili, who was the inspiration for the Anna G range.

Naturally, this is an effective and efficient corkscrew design, as you would expect from Alessi. Simply sit Alessandro over a bottle, screw the head down and the cork will lift out into the lower body. The rolled steel screw is PTFE treated for easier insertion into the cork and other components are made from polyamide and chrome plated zamak (a reassuringly heavy and robust metal alloy).
This is a SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION version of the classic design that has been hand painted and is individually numbered.
The ‘Merry Sandro' corkscrew has apparently been chosen as the 2010 testimonial for 'The Dream Factory' project - a partnership between Alessi and the Amici dei Bambini Association which was launched in 2006 with the aim of realising dreams of children growing up in orphanages the world over.
