It is hard not to be charmed by Joanna Lyle's wonderful Big Ovo biscuit jar. The distinctive appearance is instantly recognizable as part of the Alessi collection and it looks like the designer had real fun creating that appealing form.
It was created as part of Alessi's Biological Project and the geometric elements were designed following the 'Golden Proportion' of 1.0 to 0.618. This may seem as sensible as the meaning of life, the universe and everything being '42' but it relates to ratio of two dimensions such as length and height and these proportions can be seen running throughout the beauty of nature and art.
The Big Ovo jar is worth every penny (or cent) of that three figure price tag and is made from the most beautiful hand blown crystal glass, with a polished stainless steel domed lid with a colorful translucent finial.
